Sigur Rós "Gobbledigook"

Sigur Rós have released a (NSFW) video and an mp3 for a new tune called, "Gobbledigook." I don't know about you, but this doesn't sound like your typical "Icelandic lullaby" from these guys. I do, however, think it is a nice change. As for the video and album art, by Ryan McGinley, I'm not so sure what they're trying to portray, but apparently the spirit of the new album is reflected by it. A few other notes included in today's news are that this is the first album to not completely be recorded in Iceland, one track, "All Alright," features vocals in English, and another tune, "Ára Bátur," includes 90 people playing at the same time. Check the album art and tracklist out below. The forthcoming release, Með Suð Í Eyrum Við Spilum Endalaust (translation: with a buzz in our ears we play endlessly), is due out 6/24 via XL.

Tracklist

01. Gobbledigook
02. Inní Mér Syngur Vitleysingur

Album Review: Old 97's - Blame It On Gravity

Old 97's - Blame It On Gravity

01. The Fool
02. Dance With Me
03. No Baby I
04. My Two Feet
05. Ride
06. She Loves The Sunset
07. This Beautiful Thing
08. I Will Remain
09. Early Morning
10. The Easy Way
11. Here's To The Halcyon
12. Color Of A Lonely Heart Is Blue
13. The One

Standout Tracks: I Will Remain / Dance With Me / Color Of A Lonely Heart Is Blue

Rhett Miller and gang have delivered a fairly solid batch of new tunes for us. I honestly haven't been following the Old 97's for too long, so it's hard to compare, but I will say that I do like this more than The Believer, which was Miller's last release. Anyway, Blame It On Gravity is out now on New West.

So I found out today that actress Jena Malone is also a singer/songwriter and has created her own instrument called, "the shoe" (see below). She also has started a record label, There Was An Old Woman Records, which will release a 6 song EP from her new project, ironically with the same name, The Shoe. Album Review: French Kicks - Swimming

French Kicks - Swimming

01. Abandon
02. Over The World
03. Carried Away
04. New Man
05. Said So What
06. Atlanta
07. Love In The Ruins
08. With The Fishes
09. Way You Arrive
10. All Our Weekends
11. Sex Tourists
12. This Could Go Wrong

Standout Tracks: Abandon / New Man / Said So What

I want to start off by saying that when I first heard the French Kicks, back in 2004, right about the time their album The Trial Of The Century was released, I was lucky enough to see them live, literally days later and have been a fan ever since. Now back to 2008, the band, now a four-piece, have released their forth album, however, this time they recorded it all on their own. I can't promise you that these are the best songs they have written to date, but I will say this record is fairly solid. Swimming is out today via Vagrant.

* Album reviews are composed only after a few listens. Yes, opinions may change over time, but most first impressions (un)fortunately seem to hold true. I wish I was creative enough to write a proper review, but I've failed miserably in the past. Here's the next best thing, I hope.

Album Review: Tokyo Police Club - Elephant Shell

Tokyo Police Club - Elephant Shell

01. Centennial
02. In A Cave
03. Graves
04. Juno
05. Tessellate
06. Sixties Remake
07. The Harrowing Adventures Of...
08. Nursery Academy
09. Your English Is Good
10. Listen To The Math
11. The Baskervilles

Standout Tracks: In A Cave / Your English Is Good / Tessellate

Another alright record and it's a pretty quick listen. Nothing really stands out, or catches my attention, but overall every song is fairly solid. Elephant Shell is out now via Saddle Creek.

Album Review: Vetiver - Thing Of The Past

Vetiver – Thing Of The Past

01. Houses
02. Roll On Babe
03. Sleep A Million Years
04. Hook & Ladder
05. To Baby
06. Road To Ronderlin
07. Lon Chaney
08. Hurry On Sundown
09. The Swimming Song
10. Blue Driver
11. Standin'
12. I Must Be In A Good Place Now

Standout Tracks: Roll On Babe / I Must Be In A Good Place Now / To Baby

This album is all right. The best way to describe it is a simple/chill collection of songs that are maybe reminiscent of The Jayhawks or Devendra Banhardt, but maybe a little less upbeat and boring at times though. I don't know how to compare it to the last release, To Find Me Gone, because I've only listen to that a few times, but yeah, I think I like that one a little more, where this one is just all right. Thing Of The Past is out now via Gnomonsong.

Introducing The Great Society Mind Destroyers

Over the past few months I have been lucky enough to make some new friends and have a few jam sessions. The Great Society Mind Destroyers was the proposed band name, however, these friends have decided to take that name and use it for another psychedelic/noise project. More news on the original project as things progress. Anyway, about two weeks ago, these friends decided to sit down and record a few songs. The result was PURPLE PEACE AND LOVE. THESE WORDS ARE YOUR GRAVE. THE SKY IS A MOUNTAIN. You can currently stream/download 3 of those songs over on their myspace page and I would highly recommend you do so.

Hmm, this album is tough, I don't "love" it, but it is very good and very chill. Bon Iver Announces New Tour Dates

Justin Vernon aka Bon Iver, in my opinion, is having one hell of a year. First, his album, For Emma, Forever Ago, has blown up much more than I'm sure he expected. Then a European tour with Iron & Wine, which is still going on. Now, this summer he'll be playing shows with the one and only Wilco, as well as The New Pornographers, A.A. Bondy, and my friends Bowerbirds. If you haven't done so already, pick up this album and go see him live. You will not be disappointed.

Video: Fleet Foxes on Fitchpork.tv

Fleet Foxes had a Daytripping video posted on Fitchpork.tv today. I say "Fitchpork" because the band is referring to Pitchfork Fest as "Fitchpork Fest" and I think it's pretty catchy. Can't wait to see them there. Anyway, check it out below, along with the forthcoming self-titled release, Fleet Foxes, out 6/3 via Sub Pop.
