A Few Videos From The Cotton Jones Basket Ride
So as you may know, I played a show with The Cotton Jones Basket Ride last night at Schubas, here in Chicago and man do I love these guys. Such good tunes and good people. I captured the last four songs of their set on video (posted below). I also just came across two fantastic videos from Instrumental Analysis, which I have posted below as well, however, I highly suggest that you head on over there to grab mp3's of them. As for Page France, Mr. Michael Nau stated that their may eventually be a future release, but this is what his main concentration is for now. The forthcoming full-length, Paranoid Cocoon, should be out towards the end of the year, along with another EP and of course more shows. Cotton's second EP of the planned three, The Archery [EP], is out now via Quite Scientific.

Lollapalooza 2008 Schedule Posted
The schedule for this year's Lollapalooza, held August 1st - 3rd, was posted today. I'm still pretty sure that I will not be attending this year. I mean I'd like to and all, but the price, heat, crowds, etc. don't really excite me. Also, it seems that many of the bands I'd like to see have conflicting set times, meaning I don't want to watch a band for 10 minutes and head on over to another band for only 20 minutes. So yeah, I may head down Friday night to hear Radiohead, but other than that I can catch quite a few acts from the comfort of my home, thanks to the AT&T Blue Room. I've included my recommendations below and click the links for each days entire schedule. Also, Pitchfork has announced some amazing after-shows, that are definitely worth checking out.

Album Review: My Brightest Diamond - A Thousand Shark's Teeth
My Brightest Diamond - A Thousand Shark's Teeth
01. Inside A Boy
02. The Ice & The Storm
03. If I Were Queen
04. Apples
05. From The Top Of The World
06. Black & Costaud
07. To Pluto's Moon
08. Bass Player
09. Goodbye Forever
10. Like A Sieve
11. The Diamond
Standout Tracks: Inside A Boy / The Ice & The Storm / The Diamond
The new record from Shara Worden aka My Brightest Diamond is pretty decent. Definitely not an album that pumps you up, but a more relaxing collection of songs. Now I do have Shara's 2006 release, Bring Me The Workhorse, but I can't say I gave it the proper attention it may have needed. On this record, however, I can hear a slight (vocal) similarity to Annie Clark aka St. Vincent. I realize that they have both performed with Sufjan Stevens, but I don't know, I just hear it. Anyway, A Thousand Shark's Teeth, is out today via Asthmatic Kitty.

Album Review: Coldplay - Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends
Coldplay - Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends
01. Life In Technicolor
02. Cemeteries Of London
03. Lost!
04. 42
05. Lovers In Japan/Reign Of Love
06. Yes
07. Viva La Vida
08. Violet Hill
09. Strawberry Swing
10. Death And All His Friends
Standout Tracks: Viva La Vida / Lovers In Japan/Reign Of Love / 42
As you may tell from all of the previous posts on Coldplay, I've been anxiously awaiting this record. Now that I've had a few listens, I'm kind of torn. I don't love it, but it is pretty good and definitely growing on me. The band have delivered a newer sound on this record, however, I'm not sure if that is all because of Brian Eno's doing. As of now, I do think "Viva La Vida" and "Violet Hill" are the more solid standouts, but who knows what a few more listens may bring. Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends is out today via Capitol.
* Album reviews are composed only after a few listens. Yes, opinions may change over time, but most first impressions (un)fortunately seem to hold true. I wish I was creative enough to write a proper review, but I've failed miserably in the past. Here's the next best thing, I hope.
